Why?? are hands??? so hard????? to draw?????????

You'd think I'd have figured out how to draw something I literally have two of right in front of me at all times. But on the other hand (d'ohh) it almost looked half decent for a second there before I hecked it up with non-Euclidean geometry.

And to be fair, I'm probably pushing it by trying to draw/paint in a realistic style like I have been recently, because that has never really actually been my thing and it feels like I'm trying to fight a boss I'm not leveled up for. ._.

But in other news, our first video of 2019 is up so I guess that means our unofficial hiatus is officially over. :3 Jerami set up his keytar and has been doing a music, hence the new title song. I also have been banging incoherently on a MIDI keyboard but since I am effectively tone-deaf I can only really do bad impersonations of video game songs. Still, as an ex-gifted kid perfectionist burnout, I think it's important to have a few hobbies you suck at but still have fun doing.

Gonna try a thing

In an attempt to be a little more active, we're going to try to post a regular journal entry every week to keep people up to date on what we're working on. Ok, so let's be realistic, It's really just for us to keep track of what we're working on, but i'm sure someone will eventually, and maybe even give us some feedback. Life is strange. Anything could happen! ^_^

I'm sure our watchers are aware that we finished our long standing commission for our good friend [personal profile] katimus_prime! It took way longer than we wanted it to (almost 3 months) but when the year started we were spending a lot of time trying to get our house in order, cleaning up and getting things organized so we didn't have to feel like we lived in a garbage can anymore. (it was getting pretty bad) A few more cleaning and organizing tasks still to go, but we'll be focusing more on our art and videos for the next few weeks! ^_^

In video news, we have our next five videos planned out and scheduled, with a few extras thrown in here and there. We are also currently working on creating some more animated assets, and possibly a cute video intro we can re-use on future projects. We're exited to implement them on our next video project which is currently underway, though it got derailed a bit since i had to replace my computer. The old one is still working, though it's running a bit shy on processing power since it's getting close to ten years old. The new one is an absolute monster and should help us edit videos much quicker and with fewer interruptions.

In art news, we've been going through some of our old works from our old deviantart accounts and re-doing a few of them. Now that our process is becoming more fluid, it's been a lot of fun passing some of these old pieces back and forth and making major improvements on some old masterpieces. That should help us fill out our gallery a bit while also giving us a chance to refine and show off our developing collaborative techniques. We will also be making our first T-shirt design, inspired by our regular visits to the gym, so that's pretty exciting. We can't wait to share it with all of you, along with stories of our adventures in exercise!

As for life news, things are pretty status quo at the moment. Work has been crazy busy, but i'm slowly learning how to manage better which frees up more time for process development and programming projects. Erin has a nasty cold atm which sucks cause she sounds quite miserable, but she's staying quite chipper throughout. I'd be milking it for all it's worth if i were her! ^_^

That all for now. If you have some time before you go, leave us a comment letting us know what your favorite thing to do with your significant other is. We'd love to have as many ideas as we can get for future videos, plus it's just fun to hear about the nice things people do together to have fun! ^_^

Maybe I shouldn't attempt video editing before dinner. :B Anyway, while I'm waiting for this notoriously slow (even on Jerami's computer that he literally upgraded yesterday) program to do its thing, here's a collaborative doodle between Jerami, myself, and a robot on the internet.

As briefly mentioned in the Patreon post, I've always been interested in art generated by computers, whether intentionally by neural networks or randomly (I remember being 7 or 8 years old and poring over this incomprehensible accordion of gibberish that mysteriously spewed out of our malfunctioning dot matrix printer one day, or the time my scanner malfunctioned and made a cool glitch pattern before glitch art was cool).

More recently I've been thinking about why it appeals to me, and it's probably for some of the same reasons why I'm interested in dream imagery and things from the subconscious, or the idea of a "third mind" (originally from Burroughs, whom I haven't read because I am an illiterate hack, but also in the context of industrial music and postmodern pop culture via Alex Reed's Assimilate, which I have read). I think it's significant that DeepDream was one of the first neural networks I became aware of, and that the imagery it generates is described as hallucinatory or dream-like--in a larger sense, the idea of creative work emanating from something we wouldn't necessarily recognize as fully conscious, or from an altered or simulated state of consciousness. (And speaking of altered states of consciousness, I did have a few white chocolate snowflake martinis when I doodled my part of the collab linked above.)

Which, I guess, goes back to a parallel interest I have in abstract and automatic drawing and the particular state of mind I associate with it. I started doing abstract compositions in college as a way of coping with my mental illness and expressing feelings I couldn't otherwise articulate. Those drawings were mostly unplanned, made to fill whatever space on whatever scraps or margins I had available, and it's probably no coincidence that a lot of the early ones especially resembled circuitry or biological structures (sometimes both).

I used to keep a fairly elaborate dream journal and would occasionally try to draw some of the more visually extravagant ones. Jerami says he has a specific world in his dreams with distinct locations that are connected to each other, some of which he's visited more than once. I'd like to try drawing those eventually, and/or (if I ever manage to git gud at 3D modeling) actually make some sort of interactive environment based on them. But I think that's enough stream of consciousness for one day. ;P

It me, Erin/Luna/[personal profile] horridzale. I'll probably be doing most of the posting on this blog since Jerami doesn't really go here, but this is where we'll be posting updates like we do on other sites except maybe in more detail? Maybe interspersed with more long-form personal entries better suited to a LiveJournal-style blogging platform? MAYBE???

We've been kind of on an unofficial hiatus from posting since the beginning of this year (Jerami's job is hella busy and he's having technical difficulties with his computer, whereas I have no such excuse), but we're working on stuff and will probably have an actual update soonish. Pls stay tuned. :3

Test post!
